The European Union could fine software giant Microsoft US$5 million a day if the company drags its feet in making changes set last year in the anti-trust case. The European Commission will make its decision in two weeks time.

Microsoft was fine by the EC for abusing its dominant position in the software market. An EU spokesperson said: "We remain confident that they will take the necessary steps." The possible extra fines were reported in the Wall Street Journal.

Does Microsoft actually have to pay any fines imposed by the EU? I wouldn't think so...but MS could of course then be prevented from selling their products in EU countries. I guess they need to decide whether to pay the fine or give up the market.
