theres an aol problem when i go to direct connect with some people who are on a network i get this message

******** has cancelled request due to no response from you; no connection was made. (Your 'Internet Connection Firewall' may be on. If you and your buddy are each behind a different firewall, then the connection will not work.).

now aol instant messangers suggestion is take down the firewall, but only i run a firewall i turn it off and we still cant connect, now i know i cant connect with people on some networks, but others on networks i can connect with no problem. The situation has me confused so out of ideas i came here, anyone know whats going on and if possible how i can fix it?
