The password brute forcers are the onlyway that I've found to crack word files.

im guessing that this whole thread is about my unremembered word password... its at least 8 spaces long, the least i can remember... and it could be anything, which is why i tried everything. its most likely a combo of meaningful words i was going through at the time. and i am not going to spend $30 just so i can get that one damn password

Ok a couple questions? Is a 'protect it from opening' password or a 'protecting it from being modified' password?

If it is modified try this:
http://seclists.org/lists/bugtraq/2004/Mar/0254.html

Now if it is 'from opening' you'll probably need to use a program. DO you even know what type of encryption you used to protect the file?

There also used to be a way to edit the file to turn the password character number to 0 i believe, but i doubt that still works.

both...i think....which is why i couldn't figure it out (my new password for the second half is protected from opening AND being modified, so i'm just sort of assuming, i added a modification one on the old file too)
