this was a very interesting topic on the screensavers last night. Some guy was told he was told he was going to go to jail for 120 years for downloading screensavers. "he didnt have permission" to download outside of the firewall and install the screensavers. He wanted to download this type of screensaver to use the power from each computer (8 computers total) while they were idle and make a super computer or sumthing like that. He was charged for 8 counts of computer theift and sumthing else... I just thought it was interesting.
here
That's crazy. And stupid. They should be looking for poeple trying to rob banks and [censored], like Vladimir Levin or something. Not people trying to help.
And 120 yrs for downloading something?! Come on! It's not like he was downloading national secrets or something!
That's just wrong.
i totally agree... i think he got 8 counts of computer theft for using the power from the computer while the screensaver was running. I mean, cum on.... the screensaver only runs while the computer isnt being used... its not right.
OMG! LMAO! That is so f***ing stupid!
yah, thank ur attorney general and has wonderful patriot act for this. Check out the bill and see how many things they added with the cover up of fighting terrorism. Ashcroft is a nazi anywayz, L8r.
i actually watched the whole show and the charges were dropped and he got 1 yr probation and had to pay like 2,100$ for sumthing. The full story came on cybercrime alil while ago. TECHTV!-- my favorite channel.
man thats just sad that the charges would even be placed.... man *shakes head*
haha that sux... He was prolly running either Seti@Home or Distributed...
Funny thing is that here we're letting people outta jail for shooting cops, and he did that and is [censored] lol...
i think he was running distributed actually
