California Superior Court Judge Paul H. Alvarado has approved a settlement deal totalling $1.1 billion between Microsoft and 14 million Californian consumers who will be eligible for claiming settlement.

Judge Alvarado dismissed the objections to the settlement saying it was "fair, reasonable and adequate compensation". The wording of the settlement says Microsoft has to issue up to $1.1 billion in vouchers redeemable for computers and software.

The lawsuit was a class-action suit begun in 1999 on behalf of all Californians who purchased Microsofts operating system, productivity suit, word processing or spreadsheet software from February 1995 to December 2001.
