A former America On Line employee was charged with steal the entire list of the ISPs customers, numbering over 30 million people with 90 million screen names, and selling it to a spammer. The 24-year-old West Virginia resident has been arrested.

The filed complaint claims that Jason Smathers gained access to the list last May and sold it to Sean Dunaway, 21, of Las Vegas, who has also been arrested. Dunaway allegedly used the list to promote his Web gambling business before re-selling it.

Dunaway got $52,000 U.S. for the list; it is not known what he paid for it. The unnamed spammer who bought the list from Dunaway and later turned him in used the list to promote herbal penile enlargement pills.
