The RIAA continued its practice of "John Doe" lawsuits and filed 477 new ones today. The lawsuits were directed at ISP subscribers in 11 states and dozens of college students. The RIAA hopes that courts will reveal who has the IP numbers it seeks.

At one of the universities the RIAA targeted, Mansfield University in Pennsylvania, college officials had warned students beforehand that the RIAA was looking into copyright infringement on its networks. Obviously, this did not stop file-sharing.

RIAA President Cary Sherman says: "There is also a complementary need for enforcement by copyright owners against the serious offenders to remind people that this activity is illegal." 2,454 have now been sued since last summer and 437 settled.

What exactly does the RIAA hope to achomplish from all this useless targeting of file sharers? The whole thing is a HUGE waste of time. The internet is supposed to be all about free information and public knowledge. SCREW THE RIAA.

apparently they're not acomplishing much. look at how many settled compaired to how many lawsuits are left. [censored] they sued an 8 year old girl who didnt know any better and thanks to crap like that people are going to continue to file share just to piss them off. maybe if they went about it in a different manner (like not being sue crazy assholes) then people might have been willing to listen to them. with me i wont either way. if some one wants to share the movies and music they bought then they have the right to. it's like telling people that they cant let their friends borrow anything because they didnt originally pay for it. [censored] that! giz and i dont have the time or money to go down the best buy and get every cd we want considering we only listen to 1 or 2 songs on the damn thing. and in my case mainly i'm not coufing up a bunch of s&h just so i can listen to my anime music. that's way to [censored] expensive. just cause the RIAA has the money and the record labels doesnt mean we do.
