men's brains feel good when a disliked person feels pain - 01/18/06 05:18 PM

NEW YORK Do you feel others' pain? Or do you instead feel good when someone gets the punishment he deserves?

A study says it depends on whether you're a man or a woman.

The brain-scanning study says men somewhat enjoy seeing a cheater get a mild electric shock -- as opposed to women, who empathize with the pain.

Both men and women showed empathy for the "fair" player in the exercise.

A questionnaire revealed men had more desire for revenge against the cheater than women did.

Researchers say it's unclear whether basic biology or sex roles that people have learned in life are responsible for the difference in schadenfreude (SHAHD'-ehn-froy-duh) -- the enjoyment of another's misfortune.

The researchers are at the University College London. The study is in the journal Nature.

Speaking of which..Does this look familiar. Yeah I found your sight when I did a search on the guy and was in awe when I ran across the post about his email. Sent the same one to me below. Good Gosh Get a life dude!! Man is he bored.
Hi,
I noticed you're from Dallas via a Yahoo member search. You are a strikingly beautiful woman. I am a 38 year old married, white, professional, clean cut and passionate male. I will be in Dallas this March 12-17, for a class for my work, and am looking for someone to get to know and potentially please while I'm there. Be wined and dined and possibly seduced, if the chemistry is right. I have pics I can send if you like. Please let me know if you might be interested and we can get to know each other a little bit. My email address is [email protected] and you can also IM me on AIM under the name Regardless30, or MSN Messenger under "[email protected]". I'm unable to use Yahoo Messenger because of the firewall here. No strings and no drama - just fun.

Sweet dreams,
Dave

Did I miss something, or was that just really random?

On topic: I for one am pleased when someone I dislike feels pain, any forms of it.
