The Caped Crusader easily fended off a suburban witch to lead the North American box office for a second weekend, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday.

"Batman Begins," starring British actor Christian Bale as Gotham City billionaire Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter ego, sold about $26.8 million worth of tickets in the three days beginning Friday. After 12 days, the Warner Bros. release has earned $121.7 million, having cost about $150 million to make.

"Bewitched," Columbia Pictures' update of the 1960s TV series, starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell, opened at No. 2 with $20.2 million. Michael Caine has a supporting role in both films.

"Mr. & Mrs. Smith," a crime thriller starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, slipped one place to No. 3 with $16.8 million, taking the total for the 20th Century Fox release to $125.4 million after three weekends.

Two rookies rounded out the top five: "Herbie: Fully Loaded," a remake about a magical Volkswagen Beetle, starring Lindsay Lohan, earned $12.8 million for the weekend, and $17.8 million since getting a headstart with a Wednesday opening. The zombie horror "Land of the Dead" followed at No. 5 with $10.2 million for the three days.

While "Batman Begins" enjoyed a strong hold after a decent bow last weekend, and the three newcomers were generally solid, overall sales fell for the 18th consecutive weekend when compared with year-ago figures. According to published reports, this is the worst slump at the box office in about 20 years. Industry observers have pointed the finger at such factors as audience dissatisfaction with mindless summer fare, higher ticket prices and the increasing appeal of DVDs.

iv watched all 4 films.

batman begins redeeming qualities lie with michael caine, morgan freeman and liam nielson.
batman himself looked somewhat ugly for bruce wayne, but i spose they needed to have an unknown for a fresh outlook on the batman series. i also looked forward to katie holmes *drool* performance, but for a supposed leading role lady she had almost a cameo! and yes i admit, i thought id see some titties :p *sigh*

mr and mrs smith (as wev been discussing in the \'The best hacking film\' thread in the general forum) was an awesome film with kickarse oneliners and yes, we got to see angelina jolie in that black semi-bondage outfit...
but alas, again... no titties frown

bewitched, starring nichole kidmann (an overrated australian actress whose treated almost like a god down here) and will farrel was ok, i spose. if youre into that jim carey sort of humor. i liked the soundtrack and it tried to stick closely to the 1970/80's sitcom on which it was based. but to my great distress, although we got to see her titties in 'eyes wide shut'... we were denied this right as avid movie-goers...

as for herbie fully loaded... wtf wants to see lindsay lohans mosquito bites anyway?!?

.... me. confused

Did you not notice the similarities of this Batman (in costume) compared to Michael Keaton?

I'd hardy say 31 movies since the 80's makes Christian Bale an unknown (he's done such movies as Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001), American Psycho (2000), A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999), Pocahontas (1995), Little Women (1994), Swing Kids (1993), Empire of the Sun (1987))

See the rest of his movies here: IMDB
Yes, she is treated like a goddess >kidman< here in Auz, and i am one of the worshipers. She was on 60mins kinda promoting her movie and she was just sooo.... *searching for the right word* Great!. I will definitely see that movie. I Probably wont see batman begins until its on dvd. As for Mr and Mrs, still looking for some one that hasnt seen it yet to go with frown

actually, ur quite right there mate.
after michael keaton, george clooneys suit introduced the 'nippple' mould.
also, an interview with the costume designers at the official film site (www.batmanbegins.com) say they 'wanted to create a link with batmanbegins and the first batman that was released in the 90's'

You searched for the right word and came up with "great"? That's pretty weak.

And EndGame...you watched that Lindsay Lohan movie? Ultra lame.
