GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. A man has pleaded guilty to cutting down a pine tree at a Michigan airport. Bart Bellin says he did it because he couldn't afford to buy a Christmas tree.

Police say they cracked the case because Bellin dropped his checkbook at the scene. Officers went to his apartment and found the tree.

After being scolded by the judge, Bellin called it "a foolish choice."

He said it took only a few minutes to cut down the six-foot tree with a handsaw. It happened November 28th at Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids.

Bellin pleaded guilty to larceny and destruction of property. He'll be sentenced in February.

The tree was given to a family.

I just thought that was so funny when i saw it...
That is a bit harsh. It is a [censored] pine tree, they grow on anything...
Haven't you heard of the PTR act (Pine Tree Rights Act).
It was funny, and harsh, and stupid. Can you imagine what drove him to cut down someone else's pine tree in the first place.
At least it wasnt his neighbors tree...

i mean c'mon, it's miserable if you can't afford a tree. Can't have christmas without a tree! What does an airport need their tree for. It's just one anyway. eh heh
you say it's just one and they let it go and next year there'll be 10 gone...
