running a usb printer / nvidia video card on linux - 04/20/04 06:13 AM

hello

i have SuSe 9.0 running on my linux partition, and so far i love learning about this awesome os.

i have encountered some problems which i have not been able to resolve yet, so i was wondering if anyone could lend a little technical know - how.

problems:

1. i have hp officejet 5510 all in one printer / scanner / copier .. i love it and it works well with windows.
since i am trying to ween myself off of windows dependency, i want to use linux more and more. i cant figure out how to run the usb printer on linux, otherwise i would use it way more often !!
i have tried the localhost:631 thing, looked at cups but could not make sense of how to implement it.

2. i have a nvidia video card (GeForce 5200 PCI card) that allows me the use of both monitors on windows. i would love to make it run both on the linux as well, but havent gotten a handle on that either.

so .. as you can see .. some rookie issues, but we must start somewhere. the years of using windows have turned my brain into jello

thanks for the tips

for the usb printer, try these:

for the video, try these:
