About Services

Services allow for a more meaningful IRC experience.  They allow for you to ensure your identity is secure and that you remain in control over your registered channels.  Both of these abilities also make it so that users cannot masquerade as you, or take over your channel, thus protecting yourself and your community.

IRC Services
Service Name Uses
NickServ

NickServ allows you to "register" a nickname and prevent others from using it. All commands allow for registration and maintenance of nicknames; to obtain a list of commands, please type: /msg NickServ Help. To use commands, please type /msg NickServ command.

This service is intended to provide a way for IRC users to ensure their identity is not compromised. It is NOT intended to facilitate "stealing" of nicknames or other malicious actions. Abuse of NickServ will result in, at minimum, loss of the abused nickname(s).

ChanServ

ChanServ allows you to register and control various aspects of channels. ChanServ can often prevent malicious users from "taking over" channels by limiting who is allowed channel operator priviliges. To obtain a list of commands, please type /msg ChanServ help. To use commands, type /msg ChanServ command. For more information on a specific command, type /msg ChanServ HELP command.

MemoServ

MemoServ is a utility allowing IRC users to send short messages to other IRC users, whether they are online at the time or not, or to channels(*). Both the sender's nickname and the target nickname or channel must be registered in order to send a memo. To obtain a list of commands, please type /msg MemoServ help. To use commands, type /msg MemoServ command.

BotServ

BotServ allows you to have a bot on your own channel. It has been created for users that can't host or configure a bot, or for use on networks that don't allow user bots. To obtain a list of commands, please type /msg BotServ help. To use a command, type /msg BotServ command. For more information on a specific command, type /msg BotServ HELP command.

Bots will join and moderate channels automatically when there is 1 or more users in the channel (assuming that there is a bot assigned to that channel).

OperServ

OperServ (or RootServ) is an IRCOperator only bot. This bot is for the maintenance of various IRC Server features and is not available to anyone other than IRCOps. All messages to this bot by non-IRCOps will be ignored.
