The Toshiba Corporation has announced today that the planned year-end Japanese release of its next-gen High Definition DVD player will be delayed due to some copy protection issues. Toshiba was to be the first to put the player on the market.

The company announced back in September that it may be forced into delaying the launch until after December. A spokesperson said during today's announcement that the company will push to keep on schedule for the player's US release.

The issue is to do with the AACS, or advanced access content system. The spokesperson said: "I cannot say when the AACS issues will be resolved. But it's hard to think the launch in Japan will come after the U.S. launch."
