Yahoo! Chief Executive Terry Semel has scoffed at Google Inc.'s recent expansion efforts, claiming that Google was trying to catch up haphazardly with the successes of Yahoo!. The comments were made during a question-and-answer session.

Semel also said that "So far they don't seem to have a plan, but maybe they do. Maybe magic will happen tomorrow." This seemed to contradict Semel's earlier comments in the same conversation, where he praised Google's search engine prowess.

He said that Google's added features, such as email, social networking and voice communications made the company "look more and more like a portal. And as a portal, it probably would be rated No. 4." Google owns 37.3% of the US search market.
