Hewlett Packard has announced today that it will be recalling some 135,000 laptop battery packs due to overheating and the resulting melt of the packs. So far the company has received 16 reports of the battery packs melting.

Four of those came from within the United States. The packs involved in the recall have a barcode label starting with L1, L0, IA or GC and were sold with the HP Pavilion, HP Compaq, Compaq Presario and the Compaq Evo.

The recalled packs were sold between March 2004 and May this year.
