Typhoon Damrey has slammed into Vietnam after wreaking havoc on China and leaving at least 16 people dead on the Chinese island of Hainan. The financial damage done to Hainan by Damrey is estimated to be around 10 billion yuan.

According to the Vietnam state newspaper, Thien Phong, one person has been killed there by Damrey, where the typhoon landed in the country's Thanh Hoa province. Thousands had been hurriedly evacuated before Damrey could hit.
