I was woundering gizmo how you started UnderGroundNews.com
I was woundering how much it costs and If it was hard
because I wish to make one for hackers but don't want to get in troble with the law or feds on what I put on it
like cheats for games
password hacking
cracks
ect
but I realy don't need the head ache of police and big companies like microsoft bothering me
I would want to make Is so people can download and upload stuff on the web site but I don't know how

Well, UGN was already established when I purchased it, I purchased it from BlackBeard in 2001 for $3000 and yeh it can be hard.

I reccommend that you have a strong knowledge of PHP/MySQL and Perl (if you use a perl bulletin board like we do) before you begin.

For bulletin boards I reccommend UBB.Classic (what we use, Perl/Flat files) or UBB.Threads (A PHP/MySQL version of our board). Both of these are non-free BBS' that are available from http://www.infopop.com which are the only two BBS' that I reccommend using.

Mainly you need to make your own content (images, designs) and find some good content (text files, zines, programs).

If you want a pre-made setup I reccommend using a Content Management System like PostNuke which can be found at http://www.postnuke.com/ and you need a webhost that's understanding (we use http://www.hostnuke.com/ who I help run).

Best way to keep people off your back, don't condone illegal activities, granted hacking is illegal, but computer security isn't. It's all about how you lay out your site...

what about downloads?

i run @ [link edited] and we're thinking about putting the source for virii available for download.

can you pass that off as educational? i mean, looking @ how they code some of those viruses is a learning process in optimization etc..

but the backlash is that some dumbass will compile a modified version and flood it out..

source code for viruses is available at a bunch of sites. it's not illegal to have it. I mean, look at Windows 98 (1st edition) or Windows ME, they cause more problems than any virus and they're legal . anyways, if you are planning on hosting a bunch of questionable content go with a out-of-country hosting company where US doesn't have jurisdiction.
