sorry if this is a stupid question, but i dont have an IP masking progrm so im wordering... since my IP address can be picked off of my posts. wouldn't it be true that some law enforcement agency could simply get my IP address, contact the ISP and get my name? i realize this is probably true for a static IP address, but what about for dynamic IP address issued via dial up?

Iwgy, only moderators and the admin[Gizmo] can get your IP from your post. But yes, if the authorites got your IP they probably could get ahold of your personal infomation. So, do not post anything illegal and becareful about bragging. But in the United States, the Supreme Court ruled that message board postings cannot be used as evidence against someone. Also though, this site is often visited by people with Government IP Addresses.

You connection to the internet is logged at your ISP and the IP that you got when you connected is logged also. Though, why would a law enforcement agent want to know who you are simply for posting on a "security" board? It's certainly possible...

Curse said it all, but for some reaons, using dial up is better, coz if you get banned or something from some places, you' just re-connect and you're in again.

P.S. there do are some ip maskin progz, but there are also web sites that can mask you all.

You can also use proxies. My school has websense, and it's a service, not a program. So it's not like you can just change some registry keys and you're in. But I used a proxy to surf, so I can visit here. WebSense blocks it as being part of the "Hacking" category.
