What actually causes Parkinson's Disease is a low level of a certain neurotransmitter in your brain (a chemical transmitter between brain cells) called Dopamine. Dopamine is that nice little chemical in your body that helps you control movement, emotional responses, pleasure and pain, and even your friendly addiction. That medication that you're taking is most likely something called a dopamine agonist. What these agonists do is "pretend" to be dopamine itself. The body thinks that real dopamine is present, so it reacts accordingly (i.e. the trip you experience). However, this is very damaging to your system, as you can already guess.

Do whatever you want to do...I'm just giving you the facts.

EDIT: Here's what that medication is called:

Trihexyphenidyl (brand name, Artaine)

Moff, if you don't want to end up with chronic paranoia(to name one of the hundreds of possible problems), do not mess around with drugs that act on the chemical balances in your brain, or atleast until you fully understand the medication(since you inquired about it on a Computer Security board it appears you do not have very much drug knowledge). Xanax is very popular because it is like Valium, but Xanax plays with the chemical balances in your brain, and some people tweak out and have perminant mental problems from it. One thing to remember, drugs that play with the chemical balances in your brain are designed to correct the imbalance, but if the imbalance is not present, it will cause it to occur. Another thing I just thought of, I know a dude who takes Paxil for Bi-Polar Syndrom, well he never acted odd or anything before, well after he started taking it, he became very very hyperactive and cheerful some days, and then other days he's attempting suicide. And his mom is the type who if he acts the slightest bit odd, she takes him and tries to get him put on something...

Hyperactive and cheerful one day, and suicidal the next? That's not a side effect of Paxil, man. That is Bipolar Disorder. Paxil is an anti-depressant, but he must be also taking an anti-mania drug as well for the mania side of Bipolar (hyperactive, elevated ego, etc.).

I take celexa, which is a mild anti-depressant. Ussually I do good with it, but for the last couple days I haven't had the proper dosages because I'm running out and I have to be scarse with what's left until I get a chance to pick up some more. Well since I cut down on the dosage I've been having some pretty [censored] up mood swings, kind of like Curse's friend's. I also get dizzy spells and I get tired real easy when I haven't been taking it normally. Now that [censored] doesn't seem normal to me.
Also, I didn't experience any paranoia personally untill I read Curse's remark about medications that alter the chemical balance of the brain. What if the medication is good but when you get off it you feel paranoid and [censored] up? Why would a doctor prescribe something like that to someone?
/me Shakes head in rapid fasion.
You can't make me scared! You can't freak me out! I'm normal! Ask the voices, they'll tell you! The voices will tell you, dammit! Ask them!
AAack.

Most medications instill a certain depandancy in a person. The body grows accustomed to the drugs and works accordingly. If you just take it away then the body is forced to produce its own "drugs" and other means of coping - and it will complain in the process. I'm not talking about an addiction here, I'm talking about a dependancy. However, there is nothing to fear about it. After awhile not taking the medication, the body will adapt to a new equalibrium and no permanant damage is done.

Here's an example. Say somebody has border-line diabetis. Their body is producing insulin but not enough to keep the blood sugar percentages down. So they start taking insulin. The brain suddenly sees that it's getting plenty of insulin and therefor tells the body to produce less. If the person keeps up very regular insulin doses - the body will cease to produce it's own completely. However, if the person was to stop, it would force the body to start producing again. Albeit, he'd have to wean himself cause the body isn't going to start right up overnight.

unreal, my point about Paxil is that my friend was put on it, and it has [censored] him up. For months I noticed a difference in him, and I suspected it was caused by the Paxil, well not too long ago he told me he suffered from very few of the symptoms his mom told his shrink about. So pretty much his mom got him put on it, and he is required by state law to take it, so his mom forces him to take it. His mom is the type who wants him to get put on something for anything and everything. I just find it odd that he did not expirience any Bi-Polar symptoms until he was placed on Paxil...
