This doesn't have the text files, but those are readily available in about 1000 archives on the internet. If this interests you at all, let me know. Every now and then you come across a software package that almost defies description--Hacker Tools 5 from Steganos is one of those packages. Comprising 100 of the more notable hacking programs from the last couple of years it almost feels like you're a safe cracker and someone's handed you a bagful of tools. The aim of the package is admirable: the good folks at Steganos, keen to showcase their security products, have provided the user with demo versions of some of their security products and the best tools to try and circumvent that security. As a test bed it's a good idea, but be warned that this is probably not a great package for the unwary. Even though anti-virus and security defences are pretty hot these days, running some of these tools may inadvertently leave you open to invasion from a carelessly open Internet connection (Back Orifice anyone ?)
There are definitely some interesting toys to tinker with here, ranging from Zip password crackers and keystroke loggers to packet sniffers, but this is unlikely to excite any great interest among the for the majority of PC users. It is nigh-on impossible to classify this package. For some it's a learning tool, giving a reasonable look at some of the tools that hackers and script kiddies have been using and allowing them to understand the hows, whys and wherefores of certain parts of the Digital Underground. For others it represents a little piece of Internet history, acting as a veritable e-history book of exploit code and snooping tools. --Chris Russell
Manufacturer's Description Steganos Hacker Tools are a collection of 100 of the most dangerous hacker programs. Don’t be surprised that a security company is distributing hacker programs. Steganos wants to inform users and show them that typical hackers are no different from anyone else, except that they use third party tools to identify potential weaknesses in as many computers as possible and exploit these if they can. With these hacker tools, Steganos lets PC users in on the tricks of password hackers and data spies – because you can only protect yourself from these dangers if you understand them. This compilation groups the most dangerous hacker tools and shows how hackers crack passwords, spy on strangers’ PCs with webcams and microphones, track data packets across the Internet or manipulate registry entries, for example. The tools include the best of the worst – such as BackOrifice, SubSeven or NetBus. They allow users to learn the dirty tricks of hackers so they know how to protect themselves. The tools can of course be used to test the effectiveness of your own defenses without exposure to any risks. Steganos Hacker Tools also include trial versions of Steganos security software. This allows users to find out which software is the best for protecting them from hacker characters.
