Just 3 days after Sony BMG's CD protection scheme came into light, they've released a patch which exposes the once obscured files. The patch merely removes the RootKit's driver, it does not remove the CD Protection software from your computer.

A Sony rep said: "This [rootkit] component is not malicious and does not compromise security. However, to alleviate any concerns that users may have about the program posing potential security vulnerabilities, this update has been released."

The hacking community has been discussing ways to implement the RootKit to their advantage citing that The Rootkit's design is not that good, but it's the best one publicly available.
