The controversial video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been lavished with accolades at the prestigious Golden Joystick Awards ceremony in London, England.

GTA scooped Ultimate Game of The Year and four of the other nineteen awards on offer, including best soundtrack and best hero and villain. The awards were voted on by over 200,000 members of the public.

San Andreas was the best selling game in 2004, but was hit by controversy for realistic violence and hidden sex scenes that could be unlocked using a downloadable patch. A Sony PSP version based on the game is expected to sell well this Christmas.
