The first of a new generation of Global Positioning System satellites was launched aboard a Delta 2 rocket on Sunday. The Lockheed Martin-built satellite has better protection against jamming, stronger signal strength and also has more frequencies.
�I think this it�s a pretty huge step,� said Col. Allan Ballenger, of the GPS Program. �The military has been using two frequencies from day one of GPS. This will be first time that we are adding a second frequency for civilian users.�
