Andrew Moore, a Carnegie Mellon professor of computer science and robotics will head a new research and engineering facility for Google Inc. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The facility will create software search tools for Google.

"Andrew Moore has built his career on the twin challenges of developing techniques to extract patterns from large data sets and applying these machine learning methods to real-life problems," said the dean of Carnegie Mellon's computer science school

Around 100 new high-tech jobs will be generated over the next few years in the Pittsburg area. This is just one of several offices Google has opened near universities.
