After all the lawsuits and the recent charge of 8 people who distributed Star Wars Episode 3 via BitTorrent, major studios are prepared to go digital.

Looking at the music industry and how piracy-ridden they are, NBC Universal Chief Executive Bob Wright said "It's something we have to do, but it has to be done well."

There are already 2 online movie distribution companies, CinemaNow and MovieLink, releasing movies that are on DVD, not ones on the big screen. This system, which is expected to be ready by the end of the year, would be what we want: instant release.

Looking from the mindset of anyone who pirates anything since they can't afford the outlandish prices in the first place, if I can get it free, why would I want to pay for it...
