Quarterly profit for the Microsoft Corp. has risen 24 per cent following the strong sales of its Windows software. Further profit spikes are expected, as the Xbox 360 is due to be launched on the 22nd of November.

Net income at the company rose US$3.14 billion, compared with US$2.53 billion for the same period last year. This figure factors in the settlement payment Microsoft agreed to pay RealNetworks Inc.
