Not exactly hackish, but phone and privacy related, nonetheless. The registry is the list of numbers supposed to be blocked from telemarketing calls, and is maintained and enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Quote:
On September 25, 2003, the U.S. District Court in Denver ruled that the National Do Not Call Registry provisions of the TSR violate the First Amendment, and prohibited the FTC from implementing the registry. The decision can be found at http://www.co.uscourts.gov/opinions/ewn_030184.pdf

Yeh, it violates the first amendment rights of telemarketers... [down]

Anyway, you can sign up for the registry on the FTC site above. Here are the privacy regulations the FTC uses in the list.

Now for the opinion piece...

If this pisses you off as much as it does me, I recommend writing your state senator and representative expressing your views.

If you want to support the list, I wrote a form letter you can use.

Hmm... think of it as a POTS port vulnerability. I want my patch. What really pisses me off what I perceive as abuse of our freedom of speech.

We are already deluged and bombarded and popped-up and force fed enough advertisements, IMHFO. What's next? Mandatory subliminal ads?
[lamer]
That's not as far-fetched as it sounds...
