I sometimes wonder what the actual standards are rather than having spec's shoved down my throat by PC manufacturers...

I'm mildly curious about everyone's PC spec's (plus links if possible).

This thread is exempt from our "if it's dead leave it alone" rule wink ...

Lol, how much is "embarasing"? I have to ask...

Also, how's the 22" NEC working out? I have a tossup to choose from but I think the 19" viewsonic should be sufficient...

embarrassing is-
$250 -for original crappy computer that i got some of the parts from.
$150 - new video card
$700 -for new case, motherboard, processor, hard drive, RAM
$90 -DELL monitor
$145 -22" NEC monitor
$90 - another stick of RAM
$50 - video capture card (forgot to mention)
$30 - 5.1 surround sound card
=$1270 big ones

also, the 22" is sweet, its kinda fuzzy, but i like to run it at 1800X1440 and the 17" at 1600X1200. i got my 22" used from a local shop who was having a sale. it kinda makes games look crappy at 800X600, but as long as you can pump it higher, its glorious.

I found some GEIL for about the same price, Dual Channel vs Single (yes i understand that you don't have to get ram that's TESTED for dual data if you buy exactly the same ram, but by compairing the prices and brand names it works out). The ram also has it's own copper heatsink anyway (actually I think it may be aluminum)...

I'll get a link later.

I guess it wasn't Geil, guess I decided to go with the PQI 2GB Dual Channel Kit $359.99; the other choice is Geil 2GB Dual Channel Kit $355.50... The PQI had more reviews, but i may change my mind later.

Both come with copper heatspreaders (shims)

I concur, maybe there is a connection between mass marketing schemes iPods and Irish Bands.

All these U2 Zealots remind me of a girl I go to school with oddly enough.

For School I just run my Compaq Presario that I added a DVD Rom drive. I mostly use it to type up homework and stuff so I don't need all that much flash atm. Only got 200mb of ram but I can run OpenOffice and Gimp without any problems and still watch DVD's. I'd like a TV Tuner Card or something that I can use to hook my Laserdisc player into. For sound I have my comp hooked into my kick [censored] stereo system with Cambridge Soundworks speakers and I'm thinking about hooking my Police Scanner and my Shortwave radio to it.

"Remember how much fun you had shooting spitwads at the teacher in seventh grade? Imagine applying that kind of attitude to actually [censored] with Mitsubishi!"

My Work Machine

Brand: IBM
Model: ThinkCentre A50 8090-22U

Monitor: Acer AL1714cb 17" LCD
Case: Standard IBM PCI Ultra Small Form Factor (1x2)
Video Card: Intel Extreme Graphics 2
Floppy: MadDog Multimedia USB 3 1/2" Drive
RAM: 1GB Factory RAM
Hard Disk: 80GB 7200RPM EIDE[/URL]
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz (1MB), 800MHz FSB (with Hyper Threading)
Motherboard: Intel Chipset w/ Gigabit Ethernet
OS: Windows XP Professional SP2

Essentially a stock IBM, with a larger HD and RAM. I mainly use this station for development using Zend Studio and Rational Development Platform 6.

I'm looking to bump the HD and double the RAM at this rate. Rational 6 is a little harder on the machine.
