A trial conducted by vaccine maker VaxGen Inc, researching a vaccine against the AIDS virus, has showed some positive results. The vaccine showed no signs of helping Americans and Europeans, though people of Asian and African origin were helped.

Though the numbers are difficult to analyse and interpret because the numbers of people with these particular backgrounds were so low during the trial. The results have been called "disappointing." VaxGen, however, have been given hope.

The CEO of VaxGen said "We intend to continue development of this vaccine through licensure, including additional studies as necessary, for use in groups in which the vaccine demonstrated a significant reduction in infection."
