The Information School at the University of Washington has been trying to find new ways for users to keep track of internet sites they have visited that they may want to find again, since many don't use the bookmarking tools in their browsers.

The main problem with bookmarking is the organization of URL's. Instead of using "favorites", which is fast, users are sending the URL through email, printing the website and filing it, or writing down the URL with identifying comments.

Microsoft Research teamed up with the researchers to test a new "Add to Favorites" tool, but found it hard to get people to test it, as they were no longer in the habit of using bookmarks. The research team is looking at alternative methods.
