Scientists from the University of Colorado have created a new form of matter, fermionic condensate. Until now there were only 5 known matter forms, solids, liquids, gasses, plasma and a Bose-Einstein condensate, the latter being created in 1995.

"What we've done is create this new exotic form of matter," said Deborah Jin, from the Univerity. The matter was created using cooled potassium gas, a vacuum chamber, magnetic fields and laser light.

The way in which the potassium atoms acted could mean that a solid version could be created for use as a superconductor."If you had a superconductor you could transmit electricity with no losses," Jin said. 10% of electricity is lost in transmission.
