British firm BT says it blocks about 20,000 attempts by its internet users to access child porn a day. The firm has blocked web sites with child porn through what it calls the Clean Feed system. It registers attempts to access those sites.

In the first three weeks of the system, there have been 250,000 attempts to access the blocked sites. The Internet Watch Foundation provides BT with a list of what sites to block. BT says it can't tell how many of the attempts are accidental.

According to BT: "It could be that one dedicated pervert is making hundreds of attempts to get on websites each day." Police officials say it is "extremely disturbing" that there are so many attempts to access child pornography.
