Security and the economic climate are the biggest concerns for IT managers, according to a survey by IT services provider Synstar. The managers also revealed that the most popular method for cutting costs was to outsource certain aspects of IT.

Among the 700 European IT managers surveyed, security was the biggest concern - cited by 36 percent of respondents. The economic climate worried just over a third of IT managers and was the external factor that caused the most concern. This issue was of much more concern this year than last year, when only one-fifth of IT managers said it worried them.

The survey found that IT managers had good reason to be preoccupied with the economic climate. Almost a third of respondents said they had a lower budget compared with last year, while only 26 percent had a higher budget.
