Classmates Online Inc. of Renton, California has been bought by the Internet subscription service firm United Online, Inc. for US$100 million. The deal has been voted on by Classmates board but still needs more votes to approve the sale.
At the last check of Sept. 30th, classmates.com had 38 million registered members, 10.3 million active monthly accounts, and 1.4 million paying subscribers. It also had a revenue of $54 million and an operating income of $3.7 million.
Classmates Online Inc. will continue to run as a subsidiary of United Online, retaining its offices and employees. The company recently went on a buying spree of similar web site companies.
