I was asked if I wanted the chance to review the new line of Uniblue products, and as I've had great experiences with their products I jumped at the chance!

I received the products in the mail and was quite impressed with the packaging, I've never seen something so professional before. In the portfolio that I received was my software and product information sheets to observe and which I'll be using to show clients when they're looking for similar products.

To be honest, I was expecting a small CD mailer with a paper sleeve like what Microsoft gives you your copy of Windows in... What I received where two heavy duty thick paper sleeves for my CD's and a the overall set looks like it cost a lot more than what I'd have expected to receive for a simple review...

Review:
This title is designed to speed up the performance on your system by reallocating resources. After the initial auto-scan you're presented with an overall usage screen which alerts you of problematic issues with your machine and where it can help you and alerts you to the last time you've ran the optimization option.

I decided to do a full system scan, the initial scan to find problematic issues took only minutes (2 minutes, on a 300gb drive) which was quite impressive; some other competitors I've seen take at least 5-10 minutes.

Once identified you have the option of Optimizing the different options (Internet, Memory, Junk Files, Privacy) so I felt obligated to do all four. Internet and Memory optimizations took only 3 minutes; which, as I said before, flies by the competition... The complete package of all available options took a total of only 10 minutes.

You can choose to free memory resources back to your system from within the memory optimization page. You must have the program running to take advantage of the memory and internet optimization options.

I have never seen a speedup utility which has an internet optimization, so I was quite curious as to what it does; although I don't know any of the technical specifications I can't say that I noticed any additional speed increases.

You have the ability to also watch your system resource usage in real time which can be a real treat. You can also edit the list of applications which start automatically; which for most users who don't know how to edit startup options I can definitely see a benefit.

I've at times experienced pc slowdown and have often wanted to just check out the resource usage (Memory, Disk IO, CPU) but haven't had a decent tool to do that, I guess I have one now though wink.

There are a few unmentioned features such as the File Shredder (and uninstall manager) which I actually rather like... It preforms a deletion with numerous over-writes to be rid of all traces of the files. The only other program I've had the chance to play with such an option was BCWipe (in the BestCrypt program) which is something I have always found useful.

The application Booster is rather nice, you can monitor what programs are utilizing what resources (memory and cpu) which is available from task manager, but you have a clean interface that's non-troublesome to utilize in doing so. Want to free up more resources for certain tasks? Increase the cpu icon to bump up the priority. Taking too much resources? Bump it down in the same manner...

I use Aston for my windows shell, so I'm unsure if there are any shell integrations with Windows Explorer, but I'd imagine there would likely be several to take advantage of items like the File Shredder.

When minimized the tray icon displays your system resource usage in a bar graph (as the task list icon) which can be quite useful when working (or in my case coding or typing up a review)...

The Good:
  • Painless/fast install and registration process
  • Great professional UI.
  • Painless way to monitor your system resources
  • Scanning takes only minutes.
  • Repair/Optimization is painless.
  • Application Booster is a godsend...

The Bad:
  • Initial Auto Scan - Most people will love that it just jumps the gun, but when initially opening a program I want to be able to explore the options vs anything else. Not to mention, I can't register prior to the auto scan... Though, the stop definitely immediately stops vs a prolonged slowdown period.

Final Thoughts:
Another great product from one of my favorite companies; every person that I've had the chance to talk to over there has always been nice and helpful well beyond what I had anticipated (with being in the support industry for some time, I expect rudeness and to be pushed through as soon as possible, with Uniblue I'm actually treated with respect and like a valued client).

I would highly recommend this product for anyone who's experiencing system slowdowns, you won't be disappointed.

I have the E6850 (2x3GHz) and 2GB of RAM (2x1GB sticks) and I have a feeling its slower than it should be. It was mega fast at the start and now its like, normal.

I pretty much copied and pasted my old PC My Documents folder when I slaved her up and eventually after like a month of using the net and [censored] around I can't help but think that I have accidentally corrupted something thats making my system slower than it should be.

I'm saving the link and will try the free trial out.
