My school uses novell and there have been a lot of very complicated things explaining how to get in under a teachers name, but I just dont understand even after research (I am still willing to learn) So does anyone know any easy or fairly simple ways to get in. Not that I am going to like do stupid stuff like change grades... I just want to have access in case (you know)

A version would help. When you are asked for your username it should give you the version. I know the latest versions of Novel Netware have the version in the name bar of the main login screen. Something like:
Novel 4.0.18 SP4
If they didn't change the default passwords then you can get in easy. Otherwise SOL. BTW you are an admin at this place...right? wink

Another way is to go around looking at every floppy,cd, thumbdrve(little use device) anything that might have something stored on it giving usernaes and/or passwords. If it's encrypted, I'd put extra effort to decrypt it. Really other than default passwords there is no way to crack novel except I've read there was one version that you could use a printer cable hooked up to the machine to bypass it. I haven't done this and I only found it for an older version, in the threes, that it worked for. Hope this helped.

Don't you hate it when you lose your admin passwords?

BTW shouldn't this be in a different place, like windows security or *nix security?

College teachers seem to be a little more technology-aware, but most high schools (generalization here) have technologies the teachers can barely figure out how to use. The accounts probably have a pattern for user/password combinations. Your best bet would be to find out what policies they do for password recovery and similar issues.

Aside has a great idea with simply looking around, probably written down somewhere, like a sticky not on the side of the computer or right in the desk drawer.

Try some social engineering. Probably be much easier and much more effective.

Yeha could work, some places allow people to crete their own passwords, some don't. Have you tried the default admin passwords yet? Maybe you could find a copy of novel netware for your version or installation(don't have much knowledge other than the one I use, which is for a specific installation I think) and use is to spy on people. They may even have it on their netdrive (if they have one). You can see anyone in a group with netware.

Oh yeah sorry to bother you, but does anyone know how to use Novell for messaging other than something like AIM Or MSN? Kind of like Windows messaging.

Well its hard to know what you mean but novell has a messaging feature that allows you to send messages to any user that is loged into the server. You would have to right click the novell icon on the taskbar and find the messaging option. This allow you to select from a list of currently logged on users to which you wish to send your message. After that you type in the message and click send.

If your school is running Windows 98SE or lower, then all you have to do is boot up into Safe Mode.
Run 'sysedit' and go to either win.ini, or one of those other files, and scroll towards the bottom. There you will find a list of user logon names. Copy them all down and see which one doesn't need a password the next time you log in on Normal Mode. At my school the flaw username was 'zstudent' with no password. I had every right that the teacher account did.

new here but my input, in my college they used novell 3. something. Now i found alot of nice little novell admin programs that would create admin account smile but leave msg on server saying so, so this was never really an option. What i did find was that if you go to the novell website and look around and download a few of their system tools. i was able to download and configer EPOP which is one of novells remote control programs which no problems (well untill they found out) But yes best place is the novell website smile you can download most of the products. Also look for defauls accounts that you can install these programs on that admin soo easily over look and never set passwords to smile

Hey Tyler... I suggest you leave the grade changing alone. If you really need to ask that question then I'm thinking you shouldn't even try. You don't know enough not to get caught.

Shades of War Games. Getting sent to the principal's office just to get the password that week.

I've been lookin at those for years, i prefer the longer ones vs the ones with a cord as you know something is up when you can see your PS2 connector from your computer...
