Walgreen Co. on Monday said Snapfish, the online photography unit of Hewlett-Packard Co., would host its online photo service, as the top U.S. drugstore chain vies for a larger share of the digital photo printing market.

Walgreen, one of the nation's leading retail photo finishers, aims to capitalize on Snapfish's technology to grow its digital photo business, a Walgreen spokesman said.

Until recently, Walgreen operated its online photo service via another host, but through its alliance with Snapfish, the retailer would for the first time allow customers to upload their images from home and pick up prints in as little as an hour.

HP, the No. 2 personal computer maker, acquired Snapfish earlier this year, taking in its fold an online photo site, whose rivals include Eastman Kodak's Ofoto and Shutterfly Inc.
