Oil prices this week have closed above $40 US /barrel, a 13 year high. Driving off from the gas station without paying has become an acceptable choice for some people upset by rising gas prices.

Over the past two weeks, the RCMP have noticed a 50% increase in "gas 'n runs." Some retailers are now demanding that customers pay first, or are having electronic surveillance at the pumps.

Some people are calling for a boycott of gas on May 19, but industry insiders said that a single day boycott won't make any difference. On Canada's west coast, there is an island charging 96.9 cents/Litre for gasoline.
