US Tells Europe to Be Careful With Microsoft

In his first visit to Europe, the head of US Justice Department anti-trust division, Charles James, will tell European authorities they should be careful when fighting Microsoft's anti-trust practices and take the US case as an example.

"The theory of monopoly leveraging is one that has been largely if not almost entirely rejected by our courts" said James. "In a world in which consumer welfare is a predominant goal of anti-trust enforcement we think the US cases are well founded".

European authorities wants to fight Microsoft's anti-trust practices even harder than the US did. They want MS to sell Windows operating system and the Media Player as separate software, for example.
