The world's biggest ever solid state disk was supplied to the US government by Texas Memory Systems. At 2.5TB it is over 5 times the size of the previous biggest.

The purpose of the drive is hosting metadata for large file systems and the acceleration of other storage-based applications. This is to speed up cross-checking across several vast databases.

The installation site is in Washington DC along side the government, the NSA and the Pentagon. The list price is $4.7 million, although the government received a discount.
