Scientists at the University of Oxford have revealed that they have reason to believe that the Higgs Boson, sometimes called the "God Particle", may have been created in an atom smasher in Switzerland.
The Higgs Boson is the basic element that explains why all other particles have mass and is fundamentally necessary to the Standard Model of particle interactions. This degree of importance is the reason for it often being called the "God Particle".
The Higgs Boson is thought to be highly unstable, to the point where even if it is produced it should decay rapidly. The energy signals picked up from the atom smasher match the theoretical values calculated for the Higgs Boson.
