Britain's Ministry of Defence has become the latest organization to ban the iPod music player due to high-tech security risks. The ministry will no longer allow the device into most areas of its facilities in the UK and overseas.

Government agencies and corporations are increasingly viewing devices such as the iPod, which have large storage capacities and can easily be connected to a computer, with suspicion. They fear the players could be used for information theft.

"With USB devices, if you plug it straight into the computer, you can bypass passwords and get right on the system," a military spokesman said. "That's why we had to plug that gap." He said the policy was instated when MOD switched to Windows XP.
