A $250,000 reward is being offered by Microsoft for information on the MyDoom.b worm which appears to be designed to shut down Microsoft's web site this weekend. The company wants info that would lead to an arrest and conviction of the worm author.

MyDoom relies on a file attachment which gives others access to one's computer. The author of this worm signed it with the name "Andy." "Andy" wrote: "I'm just doing my job, nothing personal, sorry."

The SCO Group tried this tactic before with a $250,000 reward regarding a denial of service attack. SCO was not successful. Last Wednesday, 100,000 to 200,000 computers were infected by MyDoom and the number has risen to 400,000 to 500,000.
