NASA's second Mars rover, the Opportunity, has left its Mars lander and has rolled onto the Mars surface today. A NASA spokesperson said that the rover travelled 3 meters, and that everything went as planned.

"Two for two, one dozen wheels on soil," said flight director Chris Lewicki as the Opportunity joined her twin rover, the Spirit, on Mars.

The Spirit, which had broken down on Jan 22nd, has resumed its exploration of the so called Adirondack rock.
