By connecting a CD player, stereo or TV to a Japanese gadget called Ka-on, anyone can turn their plants into audio speakers. Consumers will soon have the ability to carry a telephone conversation with a flower on a speaker phone model.

The Ka-on consists of a donut-shaped magnet and coil at the base of a vase and uses the plant's water tubes to send sound vibrations. The sound that comes from the plants is shot in all directions, unlike regular speakers which send it in one.

Also being made is a wireless connection for piping music to the Ka-on. Masumi Gotoh, president of Let's Corp., said it also keeps bugs off plants and helps cut flowers last longer. The Ka-on comes in various sizes and a price range of $46 to $460.
