So, who's got a PSP and who has theirs hacked? I'm going to treat myself to one after christmas. $250 for a handheld system isn't really worth it to me when the games and movies are still expensive. But, if I'm able to 'acquire' these games, I'm all about it. I realize there isn't a firmware hack for the current release 2.5, which is what will probably be on it by the time I purchase it, but you know hackers are working hard on that. Anyone have one hacked or anyone have any comments about them?

All I can say is that I want one but this price, this price is biting me in the arse...

keep in mind sony is the company who were just installing root kits on peoples PC's without knowledge, ultimately leaving them vunerable to attack. Do not be surprised if they are able to lock thier system down tight.

Yea, they are coming out with updates quite a bit to keep people from hacking them. I'm a firm believer in "someone is always smarter than you are." There will be hacks. I really hope so anyway.

I paid 2500RMB for the PSP(including a 1G MS) a year ago, but I don't think it's a good stuff, although its version is 1.5, I can play any game for free. There are no any interesting games at all actually. When I play Winning Eleven or RR, I felt my hands is uncomfortable. In my opinion, if you wonna have a MOBILE MEDIA, it is worth to buy. If you wonna a handle player, I persuade you that you should buy NDS Lite. By the way it's cheaper than PSP

For those of you not in China; he paid $312.47 for his PSP wink ...

I'd love to get one but the price is just insane... Though NewEgg does have a barebones one for like $150; so someday....

For those who care, you can get a PSP for $199 from NewEgg at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16868110001

It comes without the demo UMD disk, slipcase, and the 32mb card; but they're all worthless anyway (slipcase sucks, get something better, umd disk is a demo so who cares, and the 32mb card is too small)...

But if you have a dome, you can play the game on MS,when you insert the demo UMD.

i prefer having linux on my psp. It doesent have as much support for features that the factory firmware has on it though. I want a better psp linux kernel to come out though then let the editing begin. pimp

Had the PSP when it first came out (1 day after japanese release date) and then upgraed to the PSP SLIM 2 months ago.

In terms of firmware, all you need to do is upgrade to the latest version once a month (or thereabouts)

I did install a few homebrew apps of the machine but then stopped, reset it to factory settings and decided to use it only for gaming, movie viewing and internet browsing.

If you're paying AUD$295 for a next generation hand held console, I find I'd rather maximise what its meant to do rather than try to pus it to the limits.
(I know, that type of mentality is probably something not shared on these boards as most of u look to expand on technology and open your possibilities - but if in this case il stick with the idea of: if it aint broke, dont fix it)

The Universal Multimedia Discs (UMDs) are region locked, NOT the games.
There is a homebrew kludge that can get u passed this little problem but would you rather pay AUD$25 to get the disc in your own region or risk bricking ur machine?

It works well with the PS3 (can be used as a wireless controller) and u can actually sync your PSP with PS3 (provided your memory stick is big enough - 2gb minimum I would advise)

Lastly, comparing the Nintendo DS lite with the PSP is the stupidest comparison one could make in regards to gaming devices.
They both offer different gaming experiences and in terms of functionality (and PRICE tag) its apples and oranges...

You need to know what you want from your handheld before thinking about what handheld to buy.
C1oud is either a Nintendo FANBOY or not used to the sony gaming layout.
I feel the same when it comes to the Xbox series.
