So I get a letter in the mail last week. It says that Toshiba is settling a lawsuit concerning the Sattelite 5005 laptops it sold. (I have one) It says I have 3 choices, send in my laptop to be benchmaked against Toshibas numbers and if found faulty I get either A)$1500 toshiba gift certificate that I can use on thier website or B) $1000. If they find it to be within specs they send it back. If you want to keep your laptop they will just send you $500. SO I didn't want to gamble, and opted for the free $500 cause them testing thier own product against thier benchmarks to avoid paying $1000-$1500 sounded shady to me. What do you think?

I'd run my own benchmarking against what they claim, if found to match what they say then i'd take the $500 wink

I'd stick with the 500 and consider it to be a good enough gift and not press my luck.

Hopefully you get the $500 cause you just never know now a days what's a scam and what isn't.

Well I thought scam, but they just asked for well, nothing. Just to fill out a paper saying I wanted A, B, or C. And then I followed the link.
