Whenever I try to run MS-DOS, Windows says it can't find "the working folder." that the program might have trouble findings it files or components. Why is this?

What windows are you running? And what are you trying to do here? I'm not sure I follow. But maybe this may help.

Windows 95/98.ME all run on top of DOS. If you need a DOS interface while you are in one of these OS's you can go start-->run-->command and that will open a DOS window for you.

Windows NT/2K/XP do not actually use the slightest little bit of DOS. you can however get a command line that behaves very similar to DOS. For that you go start-->run-->cmd . While this looks like MS-DOS, IT IS NOT DOS! Kinda confusing, but it is the way it is.

Infinite is right. Some more info might help. However if you are just running the command to execute command.com, then what has probably happened it you speficied (or someone did) a working folder that has obviously been deleted or moved.

So run command. When prompted with Cannot Find the Working Folder for this program, Do you wish to run the program anyways?

Select YES

Then click on properties, little hadn pointing to window in the toolbar or right click anywhere on titlebar. Now where it says Program (tab), go there if you aren't already and in the Working: [whatever], delete whatever is there to make it empty. Also check to be sure BatchFile:[] is empty. Hopefully that solves it.

I tested this on Win95, not sure what you are running. Options not available in some windows versions.

I'm using Windows 98. thanks, jon, that helped, i don't get that message anymore. now when i open it, a button in the task bar pops up showing that it's running, but there's no window open. it's set to run in a normal window, and the initial size says default, but I don't know what the default is.

Jon, when you had me modify the properties, would that have taken time to come into effect? It wasn't working right after I did that and now it is working, even though I didn't do anything after that. thanks
