Well it would help to know what version of windows are on the computers or if they are even running windows. If then get on his damn computer share the file then get on it with your computer and be done with it. If the lan is wireless or not doesn't make a differance. Oh you might want to try turning his computer on too....That always helps

Do you have a wireless card on your computer and are you within range of his network? If yes to both of those then it should auto detect the network and, if it's not secure(probably isn't) you can now browse around.

Next you have to see if you can access his files from the network, which I also doubt.
Go to my network places>computers on network
It's not that exactly, but you'll figure it out. Then browse around his computer and find the file.

If that doesn't work then try and break into his house . . .

WLAN- is it a WiFi (i.e 802.11 A, B or G)
there is there great program called Netstumbler
Google that....

Actually it depends on the protocol...

You can get a special card/router to be compatable with A/G which is also compatable with B as B and G are compatable by default...

There's about a 99% chance their running B; but if you get a B or G card it should be compatable with the network pretty much whatever the protocol (WTF uses A anyway?)...
