Since business is going quite well, Drak at HostNuke has stated that if we ever are in the need for having a dedicated server hosted (colocation) that he'd be more than willing to do it for free; all IP's are supplied free from the NOC so we'll have quite the few options with near infinte bandwidth. All we'd pay for is our server...

I'm semi curious on what, if anything, you'd like to see as a public service? I know one thing for certain we'd have would be an IRC Server on the machine and a few sites; however I'm not sure what else to offer...

I'd like to here, publicly, make an open forum for discussion on any ideas for this server... This won't be a near term plan, it'll be something for perhaps next summer. Any ideas. This is open topic and exempt from the "if it's dead leave it" rule.

Also, what kind of specs would you expect to see? I, myself, personally, would like a Dual Opteron server, probably a 2U; not sure of speeds. I'd want 2G ram on it and also probably run Ensim Pro for easy maintenance (looking at the 100site license; not sure yet if I'd be purchasing or if i'd be renting). Additionally I'd be looking at 1-2 drives, probably 160g on either; likely be an SATA, may even have a 500g SATA backup drive as well... Wishful thinking anyway.

Well, let the discussion begin.

A search engine would be nice
Email [email protected] would rock
maybe eggdrop for long standing members

I do like the Email idea.

Maybe we could get a company to sponsor a tournament of some sort?

If you want one just ask, I can do forwards and pop3/imap accounts; staff is free, everyone else is $20/yr. When people don't use them however they casually "poof", such as SR's and a few others which have 4m of data that's been there for about a year...

Why would members need eggdrops?

Not enough members who have one type of game; however if we could get something I'd have no problem arranging tournaments... UT2004 is a good one however.

I also gave some thought to running SETI on it as well for the unused process time..

For the tournament, I'd suggest using a freeware/opensource fps (so that I don't have to get off my butt to go buy UT2004). I know of some rather good ones, and would be happy to post 'em once sourceforge comes back online.

I just found a really sweet FPS/Tank/CTF/Platform game (Yes, you heard me). It would be really cool to have a team tournament with it. Here's the URL:

BZFlag

Get it. It's cool... cool
